CTCSS is an acronym for Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System. It is a set of sub-audible tones that act as filters to eliminate interference from unwanted transmissions originated by other individuals or groups who are operating on the same channel or frequency. Our customers ask us why their mobile GMRS radio cannot access channels 8-14, or can only receive on them. For instance, the Wouxun KG-1000G can receive on those channels, but cannot transmit on them.
